Degree Program Information

Name : NetMath
Program : General Studies
Description : NetMath is a coalition uniting the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Ohio State University, University of Pittsburgh, University of Iowa, and Harvard, dedicated to the delivery of web-based globally accessible interactive educational services that teach the mathematical sciences through mentoring and technology. NetMath brings students and university professors together to form a human electronic community devoted to learning mathematics. What was previously taught only to select high school students through C&M NetMath, now is available to students across the country without their ever needing to set foot in a university classroom. High School students, university students, homeschool students and adult learners now have the benefit of this program for credit at the University of Illinois. These students use professional tools (computers running Mathematica) to learn calculus, and mathematical problem solving skills that they may further incorporate into their overall education.

The students learn mathematics primarily from Calculus&Mathematica electronic lessons which are divided into three sections: Basics, Tutorials, and Give It a Try. For each homework, the student is responsible for reading the Basics and Tutorials sections, and completing the assigned problems.
