Computer and Information Science is the study and understanding of computing activities, including theory, abstraction and applications of the principles and methodologies of the development of computer systems (software and hardware). Information, its structure, representation, and utilization, is of critical importance in the overall understanding of the field of computing. Computers are now used in virtually every aspect of modern life; as a result, career opportunities for computer scientists and information system specialists are extremely diverse. At NJIT, students interested in preparing for a career in computer science or information systems will find three degree options offered by the Department of Computer and Information Science.
The B.S.C.S. provides the student with a strong background in both the theoretical and practical aspects of Computer Science. Fifty-one credits of computer science form the core of the curriculum. The choice of electives in the B.S.C.S. is restricted to the areas of mathematics,science, and engineering. |
