Oftentimes referred to as the "seminal event" in American history, the Civil War program is designed to study the political, cultural, economic, and military issues related to the war between the states. The degree covers (1) major figures, such as Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee and U.S. Grant, (2) obscure figures unknown to the casual observer yet critical to one’s understanding of the war, and (3) minor figures who are rarely provided the coverage deserved of history, such as the common soldier on each side of the conflict. The major campaigns are analyzed through the use of cutting edge texts and AMU professors’ expert analysis. The war itself is viewed in context; the issues leading up to it and resulting from it are critically analyzed. All issues are covered from a studied, academic perspective.
