The University of Florida offers an accessible Bachelor of Science program for members of the fire and emergency services. The program does not require that the student spend time on the University's Gainesville campus. The first two years of the program can be taken at a Florida community college. Developed in conjunction with the National Fire Academy of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the major serves fire-service professionals seeking state-of- the-art knowledge to support advancement to chief executive management and senior leadership positions. It also serves professionals in related fields such as public safety, law enforcement, government, health services, insurance, and private-industry emergency response, as well as those in military fire departments in the United States and abroad. The major provides an understanding of the interagency coordination necessary for fire prevention, emergency management, safe and successful fire-incident command, and arson investigation. The curriculum includes analytical approaches to fire protection and investigation, personnel management, disaster and fire-defense planning, hazardous materials management, fire-protection structure and system design, the role of the fire service within the community and political structure, and the phenomena of fire propagation.
Fire Services Administration - BA/BS Public Services B Eastern Oregon University
Description
EOU conducts the Fire Services Administration (FSA) degree program in a consortium agreement with Western Oregon University (WOU), Chemeketa Community College, Portland Community College, and other community colleges and academies. The FSA program is designed to serve practicing fire services professionals seeking administrative credentials in municipal/structural fire departments and agencies. Emergency services professionals whose fields are ancillary to fire services (such as EMS) are also welcome, but must meet all municipal/structural FSA requirements.

EOU (and WOU) do not provide lower division fire science offerings. Instead, they alternate sponsorship for upper-division "institutes," or required FSA courses, including "advanced" institutes. Any advanced institute meets the EOU capstone requirement. EOU's FSA program provides all upper division course requirements in both face-to-face and distance delivery modes, and recognizes credit for prior learning.

The institutes are delivered through face-to-face settings and at a distance. Face-to-face classes primarily take place in Monmouth, Portland, western Washington, and eastern Oregon. Institutes provided at a distance are delivered through EOU web-based offerings and correspondence offerings through WOU.
