| AIU Online's School of Visual Communication was created to educate and develop artistic and imaginative students for careers in the fields of commercial art and design. This Bachelor of Fine Arts degree features a concentration in Digital Design, a real-world curriculum placing an emphasis on the development of the creative thinking process. Students will learn the principles, practical applications and methodologies used to complete competent and creative graphic solutions for specified design problems. Throughout the Digital Design curriculum, they will create a portfolio of projects from each of their courses, the intent of which is to prepare them to pursue such positions as animators, web designers, graphic designers, Flash animators and many other creative careers. Courses required to complete the BFA in Digital Design include: *) Advanced Graphic Design. In this course, students expand on their design skills by rigorously examining design decisions involving imaging, layout and software applications. Focus is on advanced design concepts and problem-solving skills. *) Web Design. This introductory class focuses on website development that combines effective navigation techniques with the creative usage of graphics, sound and typography. *) Portfolio Development. This course explores the various aspects of creating a professional portfolio for use in seeking employment. Subjects covered include: portfolio layout, preparation and installation of artwork, developing a résumé, designs, presentation techniques and portfolio updating. Entrance into this non-traditional, online Baccalaureate degree program requires completion of an Associate of Science, Associate of Arts or Associate of Applied Science degree or its equivalency. A student who has met the equivalency requirements will have completed a minimum of 48 credits in General Education courses and 42 credits of electives. Applicants who do not possess a completed Associate degree from an accredited institution at entrance will have their transfer college credits evaluated by the Student Affairs Department. | |||||||||||||||
