| Whether your career goal is to start your own business or to advance your career in an existing business, the Business Administration program at Ivy Tech can be a stepping stone on your path to success. You may choose to specialize in Management, Marketing, Total Quality Management, Banking and Financial Management, Health Care Management or Restaurant Management. All of these specialties result in an Associate of Applied Science Degree. Within the marketing specialty a child development option is also available. A business degree is also available completely over the Internet. The management specialty develops a student for a career in management with small and medium-sized firms in various industries. The quality management specialty prepares the student for entry-level, supervisory or related support positions in manufacturing, the service industry, and government agencies. The student learns to set goals, plan, organize, staff, direct, motivate, and control operations. These skills are applied to supervision, quality assurance, quality control, and methods of improvement, and include current quality control concepts and techniques. A degree is also available completely over the Internet. The marketing specialty develops a student for career opportunities in (but not limited to) advertising, distribution, professional sales, retailing management, and merchandising for employment in profit as well as nonprofit organizations. Those interested in careers in banking should choose the banking and financial management specialty. This specialty prepares students to advance in the banking field. To accommodate the demand for managers in the health care field, we have developed a specialty in health care management. Students can find employment in hospitals, convalescent homes, and nursing homes. Another growing segment for employment is the home health care organization. Our newest specialty, restaurant management, will train future managers in the full service restaurant industry. This specialty is offered via distance education and through internships served in the student's choice of restaurant. The child development option is designed to fulfill the formal child care education and training portion of the eligibility requirements for the Child Development Associate (CDA) Assessment. The CDA is a nationally recognized competency based credential for child care providers. Employment opportunities include day care centers, preschool centers, and private home care facilities. Students may earn an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Business Administration with a specialty in marketing, management, quality management health care management, banking and financial management, restaurant management or an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Business Administration with child development option. Students graduating from the Business Administration program participate in evaluations of proficiency in general and technical education. A completely transferrable Associate of Science degree in Business Administration is also available.
