Venture Capital provides an overview of venture capital financing and where it fits in corporate finance, and an outline of the typical partnership between the venture capital firm and the corporation being financed. The course begins by examining principles of sound finance and alternative sources of finance. Following this general review of corporate finance, the course focuses on private equity financing with an overview of the venture capital industry and how private equity funds are structured. Focus then shifts to preparing for venture capital financing including assessing a firm's readiness, determining financing needs, and preparing a convincing business plan. Next, the venture capital investment process is introduced, including valuation of the business and other contracting issues that are likely to be part of the negotiations. The last segment of the course concentrates on the relationship between the two parties from the point of successful negotiation of a deal until the exit of the venture capital partner from the company. |
