: This course will focus on Japan?s economic, foreign and security policy during and after the Cold War. The early part of the course will cover Japanese foreign and security policy back to the beginning of the 20th century. Particular attention will be placed on the U.S. and Japan security relationship after World War II. A special topic will include an analysis of ballistic missile defense and its potential implications on Japanese foreign and security policy. In addition, Japanese relations within its region and with the United States will be examined. |
