| Program Detail | : The course in Medieval English literature will range from the earliest writings in Old English (in translation) to the Middle English writings of Chaucer and his contemporaries. Readings will include Beowulf, selections from The Canterbury Tales, Morte D'Arthur, Bede's Ecclesiastical History of the English People, as well as shorter poetry and prose, secular and religious. Attention will be devoted to the nature of the Old English language and the shift into Middle English. | |||
