: The purpose of this course is to provide students with a broad understanding of the different legal systems that exist globally; their historical backgrounds; sources of law and major legal institutions, as well as an appreciation of the place of pacific legal systems within this global spectrum. The course also considers selected topics in private and public law, looking at how different legal systems respond to issues familiar to students from studies within their own legal systems. The course will start by looking at the broad picture of some of the legal systems in the world and then move on to a narrower comparison of certain selected legal institutions. The comparator will be the English common law. |
