| Program Detail | : This course deals with European government and security institutions in the 21st Century. It will focus on political, security, and economic institutions and address such issues as unification, averting conflict, transition and reform, intra-alliance relationships, limiting potential threats, consolidating reform and reshaping the Continent. The transition from communist authoritarian regimes began only in the last decade, and consequently there has been little experience to evaluate in exploring favorable conditions and effective strategies. From what has happened so far, the movement to democratization and to market economies has been through bargaining and coalition making between old and new elites, rather than through violent mass movements. | |||
