| Program Detail | : China continues as one of the most important areas to the United States -- even as it remains one of the least understood. In particular, the extent to which Peking should be considered a threat or as a struggling, developing nation worthy of our assistance remains a topic of intense debate. This naturally hinders any consideration of Chinese government policy, particular its security dimensions. This course will examine these issues, both in the abstract -- what China wants -- and in its tangible forms -- how has China sought to gain security for itself. Also to be considered is the impact of China's internal situation, particularly emerging economic and population challenges, as they impact upon strategic options. | |||
