| Program Detail | : This course addresses one of the more contentious issues in US international relations: the use of covert operations in conducting foreign policy. Throughout the Cold War and beyond, US policymakers resorted to covert means to destabilize, influence, and in some cases, overthrow governments not to American liking. A number of these operations, including Guatemala, Greece, Iran, and Iraq have become public knowledge, and at times have created considerable public embarrassment and diplomatic fallout. Given recent remarks by Administration figures, it is quite likely that similar operations will continue to be a feature of US foreign policy in the future. | |||
