Readings range from ancient Greek classics to the 13th century Magna Carta to the 18th century Bill of Rights to the 20th century Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Attention is also given to the theological, political, and philosophical underpinnings of the idea of human rights. The second half of the course surveys the status of human rights in the twenty-first century world through case studies. | |||
