| Program Detail | : AW509, History of the Royal Air Force, encompasses the history of the air arm of the British defense establishment from its early days as an aerial adjunct of the army and navy (Royal Flying Corps), through the establishment of an independent Service, the Royal Air Force (RAF), in 1918 and concluding in the post-colonial period (1970s). Major emphasis is placed on the strategic assumptions and command structure of the junior Service, as well as operational aspects of the two world wars and several imperial actions. Specific themes include: evolution of the strategic bombing theory; establishment of Fighter, Coastal and Bomber Commands; preparations for war in the late 1930s; implementation of a strategic bombing strategy in World War II; senior leadership; aerial tactics; logistics; technological developments and advancements in aircraft designs and avionics; training; and administration. | |||
