: People in business encounter many moral or ethical challenges. The question "What is the right thing to do?" can arise in the context of personnel decisions, advertising, financial reporting, environmental and health concerns, and product liability, to name just a few cases. The purpose of this course is to introduce students to ethical theories and ethical analysis in the context of business. We will use case studies, legal rulings and other examples of real-world business problems to debate the underlying ethical issues involved. In addition to weekly online discussions, students will analyze the ethical practices of an actual company-Ben & Jerry's. After taking the course, students should be familiar with the basic tools of ethical analysis and be better equipped to make ethical decisions in their work. No prior formal study of ethics is assumed. |
