: Cardean?s "Corporate Finance" introduces the fundamental financial concepts managers use to make crucial corporate investment decisions. Students will also encounter important concepts such as free cash flow and the cost of capital.
During this course the student plays the role of a financial analyst, hired by Houston-based Blue Mesa Industries. Blue Mesa Industries has recently sold its agricultural chemicals business and wants to use the proceeds to expand its railroad business and its oil and gas business. Students will value four potential projects and identify which would be the most profitable investment for Blue Mesa Oil and Gas. In evaluating the projects the student will use two different methods for valuing investments: net present value (NPV) and internal rate of return (IRR). Next students will explore the concepts of capital budgeting while evaluating a potential acquisition for the Blue Mesa Rail business. From evaluating growth assumptions and forecasting future cash flows to calculating a firm's cost of capital, managers in this course can gain important skills and knowledge to help companies invest their limited resources wisely. |
