Program Detail : The 30-hour classroom workshop introduces the student to online synchronized multimedia. The first part of this course will cover MPEG Audio Layer-3 (MP3) compression technology. MPEG Layer-3 is a type of audio codec where processed by significant compression from the original audio source with very little loss in sound quality. The compression up to 12:1 produces a very little degradation. This part of the course will cover the history of MP3 technology, how to use it today, and the MP3 tools and resources available on the market. The second part of the course will focus on learning how to code Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL, pronounced "smile") presentations. SMIL is an Extensible Markup Language (XML) application consisting of a declarative language for synchronizing multimedia presentations. The SMIL language is an easy-to-learn", HTML-like language. SMIL presentations can be written using a simple text-editor. A SMIL presentation can be composed of streaming audio, streaming video, images, text or any other media type.
