| Program Detail | : The organization of health care has changed dramatically in the U.S. during the last two decades, beginning in the 1980?s. Nowhere is this change more evident than in the explosive growth of ADS (Alternative Delivery systems), also called managed care systems, typified by the HMOs and PPOs. Alternative delivery systems, such as HMOs (Health Maintenance Organizations) and PPOs (Preferred Provider Maintenance Organizations), are profoundly altering traditional mechanisms of paying physicians and hospitals. This shifts the focus of financial risk from purchasers to providers of care, and significantly reduces hospital utilization rates. The purpose of this course is to prepare students to assume roles in the management dimensions of HMO/PPOs in the private-for-profit/not-for-profit and publicly sponsored HMOs. | |||
