: This course introduces students to social science research; particularly, in the context of human services and social work practice. The overall goals of the course are twofold. First, the course will assist students to be educated consumers of research; that is, to be able to critically evaluate published research and utilize research findings in their practice. Second, the course will also prepare students to design research studies in their fields of interest. Therefore, major concepts and techniques of social science research will be examined, including: problem formulation, identification of variables, literature review, research design, sampling, definition and measurement of study variables, instrument construction, and data collection and analyses. |
