Methods for measuring, benchmarking, and assessing organizational performance along dimensions such as financial results, clinical services, utilization, productivity and the health of the community are examined. Additionally, public and private quality review mechanisms, including the joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations, Professional Review Organizations, and Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, and quality control mechanisms in managed care plans, including the National Committee for Quality Assurance and others are evaluated.
