: This course addresses financial management concepts and practices and the basic economic models in health care organizations through principles of accounting and finance that have particular relevance to the health care manager. Topics include basic accounting, financial statements and ratios, evaluation of project investment decisions, break-even analysis, budgeting, cost allocation and reimbursement methodologies. Health care specific topics are reimbursement mechanisms, managed care, capitation, per-case or per-diagnosis payment, how these are packaged by third party-payors, and the effects reimbursement types have on health care provider organizations. Issues of working capital, capital budgeting and investment in relation to net present value and value added to the organization, health care organizations' ratio analysis, cost analysis, and other financial management techniques of primary importance to health care organizations are discussed. |
