Program Detail	: Designed for non-chemistry majors who want to gain an understanding of the theories as well as some applications of organic chemistry, the course begins with bonding and isomerism, then moves into a detailed discussion of the molecular structures and properties of various classes of organic compounds. Following a brief discussion of spectroscopy and structure determination methods, the course concludes by examining the role of organic compounds in our everyday living and in nature. Topics in this area include synthetic polymers, lipids and detergents, carbohydrates, amino acids, peptides, and proteins. Supervised final examination.
