: Designed for writers who are interested in developing ideas and characters for a novel, this course explores the craft of longer fiction and ways of meeting its creative challenges. You learn how to develop characters, language, voice, pace, tone, theme, and setting, and participate in posting critiques of other students' work.
At the conclusion of this course, you will have:
- gained a brief history and structural overview of the novel;
- produced an outline and opening chapter of a novel;
- developed the discipline of regular writing; understand the importance of revision and developed the ability to revise;
- received feedback on your work; developed critical skills through giving feedback to others that they can then apply to their own work;
- gained a strong sense of future direction with your novels.
There are no prerequisites, but some previous creative writing experience and an idea for a novel are recommended. |
