: The difference between a successful project and one that is out of control often is traceable to the quality of a project's estimate. This online course provides a practical tutorial in project estimating for anyone who is called upon to plan, create, refine, and manage a project estimate for any type of organization. The course starts with principles of project estimating, then steps through a detailed process for achieving accurate, well-documented estimates. Topics address using the estimating process to plan work assignments for project team members and using earned value to evaluate whether a project is meeting its performance objectives. Students are introduced to six project estimating techniques common across many industries and professions, along with ways to customize estimates for different points in the project's life cycle. Students practice creating and using an estimating audit trail so that estimates can be confidently justified in management reviews. Assignments are both individual and group, using case studies.
