Twentieth Century Europe (NS578) Science General G American Public University
Details
This course emphasizes the political, military, social and economic evolution of Europe since the calamitous consequences of the catastrophe of the ?Great War? of 1914-1918, which ended the nineteenth century and ushered in the twentieth century. That century, many historians contend, ended with the collapse of the Soviet Empire, the reunification of Germany, and the implosion of the Soviet Union in 1991. In addition to acquainting us with the factual and interpretative base of this ?short? century in Europe, the course also provides us with significant information regarding developments in many other parts of the world, where the European impact was profound, US-European relations, and the interplay of various ?forces? on Europe and the world community. The study of Europe will enable us to not only understand past events, but, we hope, will allow us to make reasonably intelligent estimates regarding present and future developments in Europe and their consequences elsewhere.
