This is a required course in the Internet Business and Technology Certificate Program. This course will no longer be offered online after 2003. Click here to see the 2003 online schedule of courses. Please refer to Extension's online catalog for scheduling details on classroom courses. The Internet has grown to become the only ubiquitous and truly global communications and computing network for any-to-any connectivity. In the past, it suffered a lack of respect from network managers because of its uni-class nature--that is, every user was treated the same and there was no class of service (CoS) differentiation. As a result, network managers leaned more to ATM-type solutions that are equipped with quality of service (QoS), instead of the Internet. This course explores a full range of internet business network design, integration, and deployment concepts, technologies, and examples through case studies, class design/integration exercises, and illustrations. It is designed to help potential internet business network managers and professionals visualize and experience the process of designing/developing an e-commerce network. You also gain a working knowledge of how to effectively use the Internet networking infrastructure (backbone and access) for internet business networks. At the same time, you gain a working knowledge of all the core technologies needed to transform yesterday's economy-class Internet into business-class Internet and e-commerce-class Internet to support mission-critical applications.
