Prereq: Premedical course requirements and consent of instructor. Course explains the regulatory requirements for healthcare products, that is, drugs, biologics, diagnostics, and devices. Intended for those interested in regulatory affairs or in the clinical evaluation, development, manufacture, testing and/or commercialization of these products. An in-depth review will be provided of the pertinent FDA regulations and guidelines and links these to the scientific and logistical activities involved in taking a product from research to market. Content and preparation of regulatory submissions, including an Investigation New Drug Application (IND), an Investigational Device Exemption (IDE), a New Drug Application (NDA), a Biologic License Application (BLA), a Pre-Market Approval Application (PMA), and a 510K PreMarket Notification are described. International requirements for health care products are also reviewed.

This course, which focuses on children between birth and seven years of age, is designed to acquaint students with major aspects of child development within four domains--physical, cognitive, language, and social-emotional. The course will help students acquire descriptive information about what children typically accomplish at various ages, as well as some understanding of processes involved in development. Processes of development are explanations for why children change, and why children differ from one another in the ways that they change and grow.
Venture Capital (FIN 103E) Finance U Boston University

Venture Capital provides an overview of venture capital financing and where it fits in corporate finance, and an outline of the typical partnership between the venture capital firm and the corporation being financed. The course begins by examining principles of sound finance and alternative sources of finance. Following this general review of corporate finance, the course focuses on private equity financing with an overview of the venture capital industry and how private equity funds are structured. Focus then shifts to preparing for venture capital financing including assessing a firm's readiness, determining financing needs, and preparing a convincing business plan. Next, the venture capital investment process is introduced, including valuation of the business and other contracting issues that are likely to be part of the negotiations. The last segment of the course concentrates on the relationship between the two parties from the point of successful negotiation of a deal until the exit of the venture capital partner from the company.
