Our programs are designed to provide sound engineering technology training to both private and public sector employees involved in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of highways and roads.

Learners are supported in their studies by the department via e-mail, fax and a toll free phone number. Wherever possible assignments are field based making the courses applicable and practical for learners. Review program guide [pdf 1 MB] for details.

While a substantial number of people enrol in the individual courses simply because of their interest in the subject material, others enrol in courses to gain credits towards an Associate Certificate of Technology, an Intermediate Certificate of Technology and a Certificate of Technology.

Forest Engineering Technology Engineering B British Columbia Institute of Technology

BCIT has earned a reputation for producing job-ready graduates in Renewable Resources since the school's beginning in 1964. In order to meet the ongoing needs of our students and industry, BCIT established a Forest Engineering Technology distance education program in 1992.


This program is of interest to a substantial number of people who enrol in courses simply because of their interest in the subject material, while others enrol to gain practical knowledge and skills that they can apply directly to their job. The last group of learners enrol in courses to gain credits towards an Associate Certificate, an Intermediate Certificate, or a Certificate of Forest Engineering Technology. In all cases these people are part of a lifelong learning movement.

Law and Its Administration Law & Criminal Justice C British Columbia Institute of Technology
Description
These courses, Law and Its Administration (Parts 1 and 2), were adapted from the BC Parks in-service training course entitled 'Public Safety and Park Security'. Satisfactory completion of both courses is required for all persons appointed by BC Parks as Park Rangers under the Park Act and the Park and Recreation Area Regulations.

BCIT offers individuals a choice of four possible routes for obtaining the required credit in these courses.

1. Distance Education - completion of the following two BCIT courses:

- PRKS 3110 Law and its Administration Part 1
- PRKS 3120 Law and its Administration Part 2

2. BC Parks in-service training.
3. Comprehensive examination (for college students only)
4. Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition.

Park Management, Safety and Security Environmental Science C British Columbia Institute of Technology
Description
BCIT's Park Management, Safety and Security distance education program provides professional development and career advancement opportunities for recreational operators and administrators who are responsible for the on-going park facilities operations. While these courses are based on the BC Parks Facility Inventory System, the principles and concepts are widely applicable to federal, regional, local and private sector recreational facility operations.

Practical, field-based assignments integrate theory with practice. Course assignments and exams are community-based; there are no requirements to come to a BCIT campus.

Power Engineering Certification Engineering C British Columbia Institute of Technology
Description
BCIT offers programs in all levels of Power Engineering Certification, including Fifth Class - Boiler endorsement, Fourth, Third, Second, and First Class. The programs are directed primarily at persons currently employed in industrial power plants and interested in obtaining higher levels of Certification. Courses provide the knowledge required to sit for the Interprovincial Power Engineering Certification examinations. Instruction is provided through home study (Correspondence) or flexible classroom study (Tutorial) modes.
