| This degree has been configured as a completer degree for those already with an appropriate AS degree. It is also suitable for those who can transfer credit to NJIT from early courses in this degree which are not yet available online at NJIT. For those wishing to earn the full amount of credits required for this degree from NJIT, individual consultation is available. Computer and Information Science is the study and understanding of computing activities, including theory, abstraction and applications of the principles and methodologies of the development of computer systems (software and hardware). Information, its structure, representation, and utilization, is of critical importance in the overall understanding of the field of computing. Computers are now used in virtually every aspect of modern life; as a result, career opportunities for computer scientists and information system specialists are extremely diverse. At NJIT, students interested in preparing for a career in computer science or information systems will find three degree options offered by the Department of Computer and Information Science. The B.S.C.S. provides the student with a strong background in both the theoretical and practical aspects of Computer Science. Fifty-one credits of computer science form the core of the curriculum. The choice of electives in the B.S.C.S. is restricted to the areas of mathematics,science, and engineering. | |||||||||||||||

| The 129-credit ACCESS/NJIT BAIS curriculum provides students with a solid foundation in applying the principles of computing and information systems to business and industrial problems, and managerial decision-making in areas such as accounting, finance, marketing, environmental science and manufacturing science. The program, initially developed as a joint degree with Rutgers University, is currently supported by an Alfred P. Sloan Foundation grant. The Department of Computer and Information Science of the NJIT College of Science and Liberal Arts is responsible for all academic aspects of the degree program. The Office of Distance Learning of the NJIT Division of Continuing Professional Education is responsible for orchestrating the program in a distance delivery format which brings the campus to the student by means of television and computers. Together these offices help mature individuals complete an undergraduate degree of identical academic integrity to the on-campus version in spite of geographic, scheduling, or work and home-related obstacles to educational aspirations. In particular, each ACCESS/NJIT BAIS course consists of two components: (1) a Tele-lecture conducted by one of NJIT's faculty or academic leaders, or a distinguished expert affiliated with another educational institution; and (2) an electronic dialogue in a Virtual Classroom® among yourself and other geographically dispersed students.
