| Doctor of Education | Education | D | Regent University | ▤ | |||||||||||
| Description | |||||||||||||||
| Doctoral students have seven years to complete the program. All students are required to complete a culminating experience. The Ed.D. is designed to facilitate the learning styles of adults and provide a collaborative community for higher-level thinking and problem-solving. The problem-based curriculum, practical dissertation projects and individually designed cognates allow for a tailor-made program. Undergirding the entire program is critical thinking, scholarly research, writing and learning from a Christian worldview. The capstone project, as with any doctoral program, is the submission and defense of a doctoral dissertation project. Each student will designate a cognate from one of seven concentration areas: K-12 School Leadership, Higher Education Administration, Staff Development/Adult Education, Educational Psychology, Special Education, Distance Education, or Christian Education Leadership. Some cognates, if completed with the addition of an internship, may fulfill licensure requirements in the State of Virginia. The doctoral program may be completed in a minimum of three years; however, this minimum is for those who meet all required deadlines in regard to coursework, candidacy requirements and dissertation defense. The average time for completion is three to four years. The maximum time that is allowed to complete the program is seven years. In addition, doctoral students must maintain continuous enrollment in the program during all academic years (i.e., three semesters each calendar year). Each semester is approximately 13 weeks long. Admission to the doctoral program does not guarantee the earning of an Ed.D. Graduation is contingent upon the following: successful completion of coursework (with at least a 3.0 GPA), residency requirements and comprehensive examinations; the recommendation of the student’s doctoral committee; approval by the doctoral faculty committee; and compliance with all applicable requirements of Regent University. | |||||||||||||||
