Eastern Michigan University is located in Ypsilanti, Michigan. In the past, EMU was noted for its large Education (Teachers) program. It was founded in 1849 as the Michigan State Normal School and became the Michigan State Normal College in 1899, then Eastern Michigan College in 1956, and finally Eastern Michigan University in 1959.
