Memorial University of Newfoundland, popularly known as "MUN", is a comprehensive university located in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. The largest university in Atlantic Canada, it is considered by many to be the region's premier university and is an important research centre, attracting some $70 million in external research support annually. MUN has a population consisting of over 17,000 students, 900 faculty, and 1,500 administrative and support staff.
The St. John's campus of Memorial has six Faculties (Arts, Business Administration, Education, Engineering, Medicine and Science) and five Schools (Human Kinetics and Recreation, Music, Nursing, Pharmacy, Social Work). These offer a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate degree programs. There is a wide range of activity in distance education, and a variety of non-credit offerings in the area of life-long learning. The university is increasingly active in the international arena. Memorial's Queen Elizabeth II Library is the largest in Atlantic Canada.
There are 2 campuses in St. John's, one in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and one in Harlow, England. The St. John's campus includes the main campus, and the Marine Institute, which is Canada's leading center of fisheries and marine training. |
