Florida College is a small, accredited, co-educational Christian college located in Temple Terrace, Florida, in the Tampa metropolitan area.
Founded in 1946 as a junior college, it is associated with the "non-institutional fellowship" of the Churches of Christ. This makes for some unique arrangements for a Christian college -- it is forbidden from taking any contributions from churches directly (not a problem in a way, as the churches which would otherwise be making them are likewise forbidden from making such contributions), and the members of its board are there only as individuals and not seen as representatives of the congregations of which they are members as is typical of other Church of Christ organizations.
Florida College puts a very high emphasis on its Christian heritage, which is expressed in its daily chapel services. All members of the board of directors and all faculty members are required to be active members in the churches of Christ. All students receive instruction in Biblical topics, even those majoring in liberal arts fields.
Athletic teams, nicknamed the "Falcons", participate in basketball, volleyball, and baseball.
Florida College is the only institute of higher learning directly associated with this particular fellowship, and as such provides training for many of their evangelists. |
